Empoderando Familias
This project was the first freelance opportunity I had as a designer. I was approached by Todos Juntos to create a logo for their upcoming event: Empoderando Familias. This was a regional substance-use prevention event that was organized for Latin families in the Multnomah and Clackamas county areas.
I worked directly with the two heads of the event’s organization; Trevor and Brianna. When we discussed initial goals for the drafts to present to the board, the key pieces for the design were factors like color usage, inclusion of some form of call back to the participating counties’ design elements in their logos. The project was a wonderful experience, and has led to me being offered more work with Brianna and Trevor. To this day, it is still the most enjoyable project I’ve had the honor of working on.
Trevor and Brianna had specifically wanted something which played to the feeling of unity and togetherness toward the target audience. Given the mission of outreach to families not only dealing with substance abuse, but specifically aimed at a minority demographic which is all too often not given the awareness levels of others, nailing the feeling of recognition and being heard and cared for was a vital piece of the design thought process.
Once we’d nailed the desired logo concept, we made the last few tweeks to the original final draft. This included things such as font size and position, addition of more rows of people, resizing the people in the front row to closer resemble children, and making of the simplified version of the logo for other uses (such as the front of the sweatshirt design).
